Iran, EEU discuss economic cooperation

TEHRAN, Apr. 11 (MNA) – Iran ambassador to Russia held a meeting with head of EEU to discuss the development and extension of Iran-EEU cooperation.

Mehdi Sanaei, Iranian Ambassador, met with Viktor Khristenko, Head of Eurasian Economic Union to confer the possible ways of extending and developing bilateral copperation.

Khristenko, while noting the Union activities as a transnational organization since January, welcomed Iran’s membership and urged Iran to cooperate with the entity influentially and actively.

Sanaei, for his part, referred to Iran’s positive and progressing relations with Russia and EEU countries and expressed hope signing preferential tariff MoUs to be the first step of cooperation.

He added "this would result in extension of trade and economic relations, and the next step will be discussing Iran's membership."

The sides agreed upon launching specific sessions to discuss the issue from May, 2015.
